Why No Resistance from Pakistan against India being Guest of Honour at Organisation of Islamic Cooperation

Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is an association of Islamic States for welfare, cooperation, structuring, and development of Islamic Nation. Organisation of Islamic Cooperation is organizing a meeting coinciding with the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the organization on the theme “50 years of Islamic Cooperation: the road map for prosperity and development”.

Despite the tension between India and Pakistan, Pakistan is unable to stop India from being Guest of Honour in 46th Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). Political Scientist observes that with the critical relationship of financial dependence that Pakistan has with two most important OIC nations UAE and Saudi Arabia, it would be “difficult” and “near impossible” for Pakistan to protest against a decision taken by Abu Dhabi.

The Indian Minister for External Affairs Sushma Swaraj was invited by Foreign Minister of United Arab Emirates Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan through a letter.

Sushma Swaraj welcomes the invitation and says, “We see this invitation as the desire of the enlightened leadership of the UAE to go beyond our rapidly growing close bilateral ties and forge a true multifaceted partnership at the multilateral and international level.”
