After the meeting, Lucknow Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kalanidhi Naithani said that all public events till December 19, which were earlier given permission, stand canceled till further orders. Home department clamped prohibitory orders in the entire state on Monday in view of protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Additional chief secretary (home) Awanish Awasthi told TOI that Section 144 has been clamped in the entire state and all DMs and SSPs have been asked to remain in their headquarters. The situation remained tense in the capital of Uttar Pradesh. Students in Nadwa College in Lucknow staged a protest on Monday demanding the scrapping of the newly enacted Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Incidents of stone-pelting were reported the Lucknow college between the police and the students. Lucknow police had closed the gates of the college to curtail student agitation. There have been several protests in other parts of the city too. Internet Shutdown Internet services were suspended in five districts including Saharanpur, Meerut, Aligarh, Mau, and Kasganj to check rumor-mongering. Mau witnessed large scale violence on Monday night when the protestors vandalized the Dakshintola police station and torched about 15 vehicles. Azamgarh also joined in the protests and students from the Shibli College staged a demonstration outside the campus on Monday night as a mark of solidarity with the students of Jamia Millia Islamia and Aligarh Muslim University.
